I have 11 fish in there. I will be putting in 3 more. 1 angle, 2 jewel cichlids.

Right now I have:
1 electric blue
1 Jewel cichlid
2 Electric yellow
1 pleco
1 needle fish
3 corys, had 4, one recently died this week.
1 lovehearted parret fish
1 unknow fish.

Here is the pic of the unknown fish. Thinking its a cichlid. Anyone know what it is?

Sorry for the blury pics. I can't seem to hold my self still. Plus my camra has a slow shutter.

I don't think its a cichlid, my best guess would be a Golden Panchax but it's hard to tell from the pic.

Yup, you are right. I looked up Golden Panchax on google images and found a few pics that look exactly like it.

Thanks! I always wondered what he was.

I am new to Africans, although I have had my fronts for several months. But are cories safe with these cichlids? I would be concerned to put a cory family with any cichlids but appistos. Even if they don't physically hurt them, it seems like it might be stressful.

Of course, I really don't know my cichlids yet. Maybe these are fine. :sly:

I have 3 different types of corys in my tank. All about
1.5" long. They do just pretty good but not the best. All these fish I had in my 30 gallon so I hope to set that tank back up so I can remove the corys. The corys i got from my sister. She wanted to get rid of her 10 gallon so she gave me her corys and they got huge but they Electric Blue Cichlid has snapped off some of the top fin on 2 of them.

My Pleco is about 5" and he is the only one that the E-Blue cichlid is affriad of :). So sometimes the pleco stands up for the other fish. I do not like the Blue cichlid. I hope to get rid of him but my GF paid $26 for him so she would be upset if I just gave him up :(

I really believe that any of those Africans are poor mates for any cories. There is a term "fail to thrive". Basically it means the fish dies. One thing that can cause that is stress. Having the dorsal chewed up by other fish could be terrifing to some fish including cories. Plecs have a rep for taking care of themselves, while still being peaceful.

Please, find suitable arrangements for the three remaining cories. Pandas would already be gone, eaten or scared to death. 1.5" is not huge for any cory except a dwarf.

Just because a fish doesn't die right away doesn't mean it isn't being terroized. Cories are a shy fish that are insecure with less than 5 or 6 of it's kind around even in a species only tank. The chickens are in the fox den

I do applaud your honesty

Ya the corys I have are not good in my tank and I will be swapping them very shortly. I don't want to think it but either it was the amonia level in the tank or the cihclid that killed my last cory. I did a water change and the amonia levels have droped, plus the bacteria is now growing in the filter, I just recently swapped my fluval onto my 55 from my 30. So the amonia is droping and the nitrite is rising so the cycle has started. I will keep a close eye on it though.

I do applaud your honesty

Thank you :D . I try to be as honest as possible. Its the only way to find out the truth.

You need a background mate:)

That and bigger rock formations :)

One big question that is on my mind, that 2 plants I have in my tank have basically stopped growing and the leaves arnt very healthy in certain areas. Could I add a Co2 generator with fish in my tank? I will swap out the bulbs to with something that has a better spectrum of light.

The tank has been setup for only abotu 2 months.

My experience, which does not include co2, is to keep a high watts to gallon ratio. 2+ is good. I also will add some liquid plant foods occasionally. The co2 goes further than I want or feel I need to go. Not looking to have a jimboo tank (see plant section.) There are some plants that are good with lower lights. And yes I believe the light spectrum is important and use plant growth bulbs except in the African tanks, where I use acinitic (blue) light for deep water.

I'm with you on truth being more important than ego. :good:

Cories can gulp air at the surface and absorb it through their intestines. They are good "Canaries" in that respect. When cories start gulping air, darting to the surface, it's a good indication of water trouble. If you know anyone with established tanks, borrow some filter media. Move it in water.

Well i moved the corys to my 30 gallon. I do need to change the water on that tank so that will be next.

I think my florecent bulbs are about 25 watts a peice and I have 2. I will see what I can do about that. I will also, I guess, add some liquid plant food when I get some.

Thanks for the input bud :)
