My 4 1/2 " Female Convict Has Just Been Eaten!

Im not suprised there are many horror stories with these cats, the grow huge, become nocturnal and feast on your fish in the night. Take them back to the LFS asap.

Yea, don't flush them. They're just doing what comes naturally to them. It's not their fault.

Take them to the lfs and let them have another home.

woooh.....never flush a fish
take it back to a fish shop along with the pang.....

uhhh the ID is the pang... different name, ID sharks are usually sold under pangasius catfish... but I agree take him back to the LFS, these fish are just too large to house in an aquarium bellow like 1000 gallons...

LOOKS LIKE TOILET HEAVEN FOR THE ID'S :(

Dont ever flush fish. Apart from the fact its totally illegal and punishable by fine or jail term. Should you flush them its releasing non indigenous fish to local waters, it could be devastating on local wildlife.

was only joking!!!
went to lfs first thing this am. lol
nice to know some people are decent!!
good stuff you lot

pangasius catfish need 1000 gallon tank...no.I kept a 13 and an 11 incher together in a 55 gallon.I got the larger one of my uncle who had been keeping it in a 25 gallon aquairum with loads of other fish,I was outraged   Cramped i know...they never ate any smaller fish, not even the gouriamies(sp).Eventually they did get internal parasites because they polluted the water so much(atleast i think, they both go absises).I would reccomend them to someone who has a 150gal tank or larger with VERY good filtration

either you have the wrong species or you're just plain wrong

http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/speci...?species_id=172

they get to 50 inches, are extremely active swimmers which can (I think) smash tank walls when they rapidly swim up and down. If you had one in a 180g it would just fit in the tank... which wouldn't be that bad if it didn't love swimming so much

Nope same fish, maybe mine were stumped or something(as i both got them form owners who didn't want them). Those are some nice big fish.thanks for correcting me...

ID sharks aren't normally aggressive .. the only way I could see one eating your convict would be if it were already dead..

I don't see how a convict would let itself be eaten by a fish only 2.5'' larger then it..

Just doesn't make sense.

Vancouver your right on that one.. Convicts hold their own. Really do know how to look after themselves.. Especially after iv seen a male convict actually outdo a few fish.. Including a very large oscar! Believe that!

Also, i have a 10inch pangassius, and in the same tank, majority of my smaller fish are yellow labs at 3-4cms, even they still swimming and healthily untouched =]

So unless your convict was already dead.. Then my mind is baffled as much as everybody elses!

This thread is two years old
