comments/suggestions?

Ummmm i like the way your tank is set up and the gravel looks cool but since you asked for comments and suggestions, heres the rest of it.

the tank mate is far too small for the plec and the 2 angels, the reason why your gups have torn tails is because of the angels

Yay another person with harlaquins :yahoo:

Suggestions...hmm
Maybe replace the gravel with a earthy tone? but some people like the blue though..
More plants I guess
I big piece (4x4x4) of slate might look nice, or some drift wood.

What is this?

Thanks. It's a bristlenos pleco and is full grown at 4.5", Have had him 14months now but thanks for the concern. It's actually the other male guppy that tore the males tail, the angels are pretty laid back and old 11 years. I've witnessed the two adult males going after each other and the one is dominant over the other, hence the torn tail since their is only one female in there but now there are more with my fry large enough. I didn't want to get another female after my last died since I would have some more soon from the fry and I didn't want to overstock the tank too much since I already have to worry about getting rid of some of my guppy fry.

I've considered replacing the gravel but haven't decided yet. I like the blue look yet I like the natural look also. What's holding me back now is that I would have to mess with the live plants and the crypts have some huge root systems and I don't want them to melt after being moved. I'm waiting for the swords to grow along with the anarchis, it just takes awhile with 20watts over 18" depth. I'm going to purchase a t-5 fixture later this summer. I'm on the hunt for more driftwood, finally found one piece but someone beat me too it. -_-

That is a elite stingray internal filter. I had it in my 5.5gallon until I converted it to SW and decided to throw it in that tank for the time being to up the filter turnover rate some more, waiting for the plants to grow and cover it's hideousness. :grr:

thanks for the comments so far

How big is that tank? The angels need to be in a tank at least 14 inches high. Also, the angels look a little stunted( or it is just me). Another thing, angels need 10g per fish. You shold never keep that many male guppies with only one female. Other than that it looks good.

29 gallon dimensionis 18" high, 30" long, 13" deep, angels are by far not stunted. They are bigger than the one's at the national aquarium in D.C. The male is close to 5" in length and the female 4". I know about the guppies and have watched them and the female gets away since it originally was two males to one female. I was waiting for the fry to grow up and now have three males, five females. I'm bringing up the females on my own because I don't want to risk getting a female from a store, and I already have to get rid of some of my fry now or let them loose and see how they fare with the angels, which is certain death  Not that I'm opposed to it, just don't want to do it particulary. I'll have to get rid of some males and females soon with some of the fry starting to mature and that will get the male to femal ratio in check (1:2, perferably 1:3) :good:

I don't think a 29-gallon is bad for 2 angels at all. I have 2 in a 10-gallon *dodges various things thrown at her*. Anyway, nice tank! I have blue gravel too and I like it. I wouldn't change the gravel. Too much work. :shout:

One reason I'm not doing it

thanks everybody :good:

tank looks great but don't like seeing angels and guppies together because the risk of torn fins, which seems to be happening in yours, the guppies are very pretty just a shame to see the tails in that condition

I understand but I've watched them and they do not attack the guppies. it's the male that is attacking the other male. It's not in the pics but I also have a betta in there  I know I'm gona get flamed for that but it's quite fine. No torn fins at all and eats fine. :good:

ok how do you know it isn't the betta, do you watch them all day everyday? i can't really say to much about keeping them with gups because i keep females with gups, but my gups are female to so not much colour

i don't think the angels look stunted, they look like they've got a bit/lot of Pterophyllum leopoldi in them which are a bit smaller, the face shape is very similar, although the markings are more scalare

most modern angels contain a mix of p. scalare, p. altum and p. leopoldi although they are all usually sold as scalare.

however that being said the tank is still too small for them

I see the male attacking the other male guppy. The guppies stay in the middle of the tank and since it's 18" deep the betta rarely ventures far from the surface. The guppies are too busy with each other or the females to bother the betta and I used to see the betta attack the guppies but that was only when they came into his territory and then he only swam after them and the guppies would leave. It's only the one male guppy, the other has a full tail no bites, that also leads me to conclude the angels and betta don't attack him while I'm away. I know technically I'm not supposed to do some of the stuff I do but I had it before I came here and actually started reading books on fish, that's how I know my angels are fine with bettas and guppies, though I wouldn't recommend it to someone.

How's it too small for them? It's a 29 US gallon, that's what I've read as a recommended tank for them. I didn't buy them so I can't say what they are, all that I know about them is that my grandpa bought them in 1996.
