sorry for bad pic quality camera phone...
buytotherwise any tips as of what to do with this tank(bigger tank not an option at moment)
As for heating hte room tempurature is at 75f Degrees at all time

The black skirt tetra needs to be in a school of 4 or more. That tank is also too small for them. The platies cannot fit in that tank either. They will probably breed, and you need to have 2 females for every male, so check the sexes.

both female[platys] i checked..
well soonest ican do somethign aobut it would be august after iget my 1st paycheck(start work in july... have school now must focus getting good marks ot get into a good high school)
by breed you mean...cross breed?

Welcome! :)

You probably want to start out by reading the pinned topics for beginners and about cycling.

And I hate to tell you this, but I'm affraid you'll need to figure out other arrangements for your current fish. Even with daily water changes, I fear they won't do well in a two gallon hex tank until August. Since you've only had them a couple of days, I would hope the store would take them back. Another option is getting a bigger tank (a ten gallon minimum, but a 15 gallon if you want to keep the tetras in a proper school). This tank would still need to cycle, though.

Even though you have two females, it is very likely they are pregnant. If they were kept in the same tank as males, it's pretty certain. :)

oh no....
well im not sure my partents woudl be willing to drive me back down... to the petstore...if it werer that other one no prob but id have ot take a bus go for 20 minute walk in -10c weather so not sure fish can uhh survive that?

Yep either way they'd be fine. It would be better if you could take the bus so they wouldn't be exposed to the cold, however if you have to walk just put them in a small cooler to keep the heat in or wrap the bag in some kind of insolation. I've done it many times. Oh btw, if you were to phone up the "other one" your talking about they may take the fish, most shops will, even if they weren't bought from that shop.

beforei meant bus THEN take a walk... really... because the "othershop(pj's pet mart" is way closer and is one bus then "petsmart(lots of dead fish in therer tanks lol.. i wasl iek whats hte deal with all the dead fish"
hmm which pair shouldi return then i wonder

I think she means both. :dunno:

Get a betta, they can fit in there!

Take all four fish back and get a betta.
That's really your only option.

And I'm sure your parents would understand if you explained your situation to them.
in future just be sure to do more research on the fish you want before you buy them.

yeah id have to return them and get into a hassle with my mom.
If it were up to me id only have a betta and possibly african dwarf frog in there(would that work?)
one of hte platys seems to be pregnant and the other one doesnt seem so happy
the tetras swim around lots and eat lots aswell

Edit:Sigh problems of being young..your mobility is limited

the rplaty fries are dooomed, because once there born the tetras will ahve a good tiem eating them and my dad is being dense and says"how can a fish get pregnant... and how i cant remove the platy into a sepertate bowl so i can save the frys..."
geez i hate being undermined due ot age
and having dense parents that are perfectionist

i understand its prob hard for you considering the effort it is going to take to get the fish back to the store. is there anyone at all who could possibly drive you?? it is sad for you to be in this situation but if you cant do something about it you will have dead fish and/or babies getting eaten and im sure that would be even sadder for you.

i agree that at this point if you really want a fishy in there you should get a betta (siamese fighting fish). you can get some absolutely beautiful ones and although you can only keep one in a tank, they are still a joy to own.

hope you can work something out mate

also try and explain to your dad that this breed of fish mate like normal animals and then give birth to live young that maek a wonderful snack for almost any fish with a big enough mouth to eat them. also just moving the fish to another bowl is no good for a couple of reasons: a) you would need something with already cycled water so you only have good bacteria in your bowl, B) you would need another filter or at the very least a pump, some tubing and an airstone and c) moving the fish if she is really close to birthing could make her abort her own babies due to stress or she could even die.

my parents arent agreeing with me here for returning the fishies...
well the fry getting eaten well thats going to be on my concsience...
perhaps once iget more experienced, and more tanks[id prefer to have 2 of them a two gallon(for isolating fish) and ten gallon(general few fish 3-4ish?) for myself(guppies(can get a free from friend..from school he has lots of guppy fries thats for sure(stopped by his hosue today for hte 1st itme since ive known him(say 5 years) ]
but oh well all i can manage to do is try and get a bigger tank and/or feed the fish and keep check on them

I hear you, I hate being young! My parents want me to get $200 dollars for a new tank all by myself :shout: ! And I don't even have a job! At least they could pitch in a little...
And in PJ's pet mart, I wish I could go there my only lfs is Wal-Mart and a stupid store called Trent Pet who has like all dead fish. I used to live beside there before I got fish and now i wish I would have stayed there! But, about your fish, you could get a water conditioner for now, it might help a bit. At least until you can get a bigger tank.
