This is my first tank, a 10 gallon glass aquarium. (sorry for the glare, a mirror is behind my tank)
My boyfriend wanted Predator in the tank.

I used to have some live plants but snails destroyed them. :-( I am going back to the pet store in about an hour so what should I get? I want some more hiding spots for my fish.

I have these fish in my tank as of now:

1 male betta (1.5 inches)
1 dalmation molly (pregnant???) (1.5 inches)
1 glass catfish (2 inches)
1 bumblebee catfish (2 inches)
2 neon tetras (1 inch each)
3 green neon tetras (less than 1 inch each)
1 bleeding heart tetra (1/2 inch)
1 glo-lite tetra (1 inch)
1 orangefin loach ( 2 inches)

Also, if I buy some live plants today is there anyway I can get rid of the snails on them? I heard I could dillute some bleach in water and soak my plants in that for a littlw hile before putting them in. (After rinsing them of course) Or boiling them? I saw on a website someone boiled theirs to kill their snails. Would that kill the plants though? :dunno:

I don't realy think you should buy any new ornaments as your tank is already very over-stocked and ornaments take up space themselves, so reducing the volume your fish have to live in. Plants might be a good addition nonethe less (live) as they use up nitrAtes. I suggest you get yourself a couple of airstones, and an air pump if necessary, - that'll do your fish good.

You want to boil the plants? Just do a forum search on "bleach" or "alum"in the plants forum, lot of info to be found there.

Is this the blue fish? Sorry for the poor quality, only pic I could find. If so it's an albino black skirt tetra dyed blue.

No. Sorry I deleted all my pictures by accident. I found out what the fish was. It is a botia modesta, or orangefin loach. :) I put all of the pics up there again.

um, you should get rid of some fish. alot of loaches need bigger tanks then 10 gallons. And all tetras need to be in school of 6. mollies will also get a bit to big for that tank. and need brackish water. glass cat fish are also schooloing fish.

heres a suggestions

keep the betta and the neons, just get the school up to 6. and maybe the mollie, but ime mollies are evil little buggers and would kill that betta.

My molly and beta hang out all the time. They are the only two fish that swim at the top most of the time. Mollies aren't considered brackish water fish, they are a freshwater fish but do best with a litte aquarium salt. I have 7 tetras as of now. I know I will re-home the loach if he gets bigger. The last loach I had only grew to 3 inches before he died and I had him a long time. Also, Mollies only get like 2 inches when adult don't they? How will that outgrow a 10 gallon?

actually, mollies grow to be 4-6 inches. and they do need brackish water. they need the salt so that they can live their lives better than in fresh water. mollies actually, can live in marine tanks as well.

tetras need to be in a group of 6 of each species. 6 green neons, 6 of the other types as well. this i s because if there was a predador they can blend in with eachother. not being in groups stresses them out.

and im only saying this for the well being of your fish, im sure that you want them to live a long happy life so you can enjoy them.

oh, and 1 more thing, if you want to use salt for the mollie, you shouldnt because of the loach, they are scaless.

btw, that minght be a baloon molly

My boyfriend has had it since he was a kid. I boiled it for awhile then rinsed it and set it in the tank while it cycled. :D

Oh and she isn't a balloon molly. She was in the tank with all the other dalmation mollys and black mollys. The balloon mollys were in a separate tank. She didn't ALWAYS used to be that fat.

then she looks like she is ready to drop. You might want to get a breeder net, or breeder trap if you want to raise the fry.

I agree that you've got a few too many fish in there. But that's not what you asked so anyway, boiling a live plant will definately kill it. As far as I know all you can do is rinse it really well to get the snails off.

Anyway, interesting decorations you've got going on there :)
good luck
