Went to my favourite fish store today to make a purchase. On my last visit when I asked for 2 females & 1 male I was given 3 females. So today I asked the girl for 2 females & 1 male & asked her to check as a mistake had been made on my previous visit. Was busy looking at other tanks while she caught my fish & guess what I found when I got home? Yes I had 3 males. Just hope that 3 male micky mouse platties will get on ok together.

They should'nt be working in an aquarist shop if they cannot sex Platies correctly.

demand exchange or talk to their manager.

Things like that can be useful, like they sell female dwarf gouramis for much less than the males, just wait until they have no females and ask for a female :) Hey pesto, loads of money saved.

Hi. Andy. I go to Swallow Aquatics at Stanway just outside Colchester. Nice clean tanks & healthy fish. I was listening to a young lad who works there as he was explaining to another customer about stocking tanks & which fish would live happily together etc. etc. Wish he had served me. For all you fishy people in this area on the 30th September Swallows will be moving to the Mill Race Garden Centre. What stores do you recommend Andy? I lived in Sudbury many years ago but can't remember what pet shops there were.
IMCL85 I am going to speak to a manager tomorrow, I am stuck with the fish for now though as I am unable to return to the store. Due to an injury I am unable to drive so I must rely on other people.

I'm new to all this but I too have so far also used Swallow Aquatics at Stanway.

There are two LFS's in Sudbury. An independent at the top of the High Street (North Street) which has a small selection of fish. Their tanks are very dirty and have many poorly and dead fish. I popped in a couple of weeks ago for a browse and observed a Whiptail Catfish with some kind of infection growing from it. It looked like strands of cotton wool.

We also have a new Pets@Home store which also have a small selection of fish but, unlike the independent, seem to be kept in very clean conditions and I have only spotted a couple of dead fish during my few visits. I've used the Pets@home store for things like test kits and stress coat as being a large chain there prices are the cheapest I've found.

I'd rather go to a specialist Aquatic store to buy my fish hence using Swallow Aquatics so far.

Andy
