HOw do u think playin music affects fish. Does it irritate them? DOes it hurt put some stress on their life? does it affect their behavior? or does it affect nothing at all. I usually put on rock, hip hop, r and b, and some relaxation songs soo i was curious.

I have two bettas almost directly in front of my comp speakers and they don't seem to notice when I start playing music. I don't play my music very loud though, so there's every chance they just don't hear it at all.

My betta doesn't seem to care or notice when I'm playing music. I wouldn't think they could hear it underwater... -_-

I play the trumpet, the fish don't like the low notes (the first one gives them a shock but after that they're fine). They don't seem to notice the high notes no matter how loud.

I tink it would probably depend on the sort of music.

I mean anything by Marilyn Manson (spelling) and you run the risk of killing the poor wee fishies.

Anything that is dancy or hip hop will undoubtebly (spelling) make their little lives complete.

And anything that is remotely like classical music will probably bore them to death.

hope that helps.

I read somewhere that a girl had a big ACF and would play the starwars theme everyday at meal time, and she would go nuts. And eventually associated the music with meal time.

I don't think I'd be keen on playing music around my fish, I don't think the vibrations would be natural and would probably stress them out.

quite right. Fish don't hear as such. They are able pick up vibrations and translate that into signals that they are able interperate.
This would probably mean that the music has to be loud enough to produce vibrations that would disturb them significantly before it starts stressing them.
Your fish will probably already be used to a range of vibrations but can associate them with your interference. Constant music from and unidentified source could confuse the fish though i suppose.

I have considered this myself when playing loud music/DVDs in my room and I would have thought that loud music would have affected fish near a speaker due to the vibration and shock them a bit. I wouldnt have thought that the stress could be good for them.

But Fish I would suppose are like any animal and they would get used to the vibrations and therefore would not stress them out.

My tank lives right next to my telly with the sub for the surround sound just next to it aswell. The fishes all seem to be fine none of them are ill and dont seem to be bothered by the bass.

I think it would be a different story if you were to suddenly suprise them and blast out some tunes at them especially if they haven't heard it before.

But other than that I cant see how it would affect them.

I would probably worry more about a dogs hearing saying that a dogs hearing is far more acute than ours.

Rather than a fish feeling the vibrations that would be broken up by the glass, the water and a stand that they are on not to mention the air in the room that the sound would have to pass through.

If i lived next to an airport I'd get used to the sound of planes, but i doubt i'd enjoy it.

There are cases of breeders using loud rock music along with large water changes and flashing lights to simulate thunderstorms to get diffucult to spawn species in the mood.
