Well, I wanted to try out some sand I got for my betta's tank, it didn't work. I had taken him out and put him in a cup only to find out the sand was, unfortunately, not good because it made the water murky. I looked around and found some rocks out in the yard to temprarilyput in the tank. I cleaned them (or so I thought) and found out that I hadn't cleaned them quite enough, and the water ended up murky again. I asked my mom what she thought and she said put the fish in without cycling it. Dumb, I know. I wouldn't have listened to her, but I'm trying to get her to let me have another tank and she get's kinda pissed off if I complain too much. Anyway, I left it like that overnight and Calcifer looked fine in the morning, no stress lines or anything, but the water looked even more murky. I don't want to stress him but I want clean water.. Should I put him back in the cup he came with and reclean the tank and let it cycle, or just leave him in there and hope it fixes? He seems active and peppy.. here's a clip.

Uhhh.. I don't know what you're talking about with the cycling. Nobody cycles betta tanks, they're too small. They just do a lot of water changes. :hey:

Well anyway, I'd say just RINSE your sand in tap or hose water or whatever until it runs clear. THEN put it in the betta tank, THEN fill it up with water, THEN add the betta. :good:

Well, it's not the sand. I think the sand is pretty hopeless, I was washing it for around half an hour. It just wasn't the right type. See, it was the rocks I put in (which, none the less, are pretty, but still..) and the sand is ugly anyway. I prefer to cycle my betta tanks, just in case we have any sort of stuff that needs to evaporate.. no chlorine, but I'm still paranoid. Anyway, I was just wondering, should I clean it out immediatly or wait?

I don't quite understand what you're trying to say, but.... I can't see your video :\

Hmm. Well, let me try to sum it up:

Due to some persuasion from my mom, I left the water in the fish tank kind of murky, with the fish in it. Can it surivive or should I clean it, immediatly?

there you go. thats the problem. you usually have to wash the sand from hardware stores for over an hour. aquarium sand sold at petstores are way easier to work with

:good: lovely video...get sand from pet or aquatic place it dont make the water murky. If the sand is in the tank when you add water put a cup on the sand and pour the water in the cup it dont disturb the sand then.
