can it be done?

sayyy...a dwarf gourami and a pearl gouarmi...some type of variety like this. will they get along or will there be aggression? I'm curious in general, but in my specific case it would be in a 30 gallon tank.

and i guess by can it be done, i mean is it reasonable, or will it be non stop quarrells.

Thanks!

i have 3 female and 1 male dwarf gourmis
, 1 male and 2 female red robin honey gouramis and 4 female and 2 male yelloow honey gouramis in a 180 litre tank
they all live happily - the tank is quite heavilly planted

honeys and pearls are reasonably peaceful and should be ok with dwarf gouamis - but i would only get 1 male dwarf and 2 -3 females then get either pearls or honeys and they should be fine
make sure you give them plenty of plants and some caves - they like hiding spaces :)

I definately wouldnt have more than one male dwarf in a tank that size though

Dwarfs and pearls generally won't bother each other. My brother has in his tank, dwarfs, honey dwarfs, pearls, opaline, gold, blue, indian.
The only ones I have seen bother each other are the golds and blues but I believe these are colour morphs of the same type of gourami.
The 'normal' and dwarf sized ones don't really seem to interact much.

They should be fine. The tanks big enough for the dwrfs to make there territory.

The pearls won't harm them they are very peacfull

I'm sure i'll have post back up once i do it, but the tank is cycling, so it won't be for awhile. and i'm not completely set on the stocking yet..just trying to get ideas

Ok if you need anymore help then you know where to post.

bringing this post back to life haha

so i was just home for easter and got a few fish.
i called the lfs to find out what gourami they had, they said they had a bunch and we'd be better just coming in and seeign what they have at the time.

they had banded, dwarf (and color varients), honey, moonlight, blue, lavendar, gold, snakeskin, platinum..might be missing one or two..
i've read bout most of them..but in the end i always forget what info went with which fish..so we went by their cards. really liked the gold, but they say the get up to 6" and can be pretty territorial, so i talked my brother out of that...then it was a really tough decision..ended up going with 1 lavendar, which i gues is a color morph of blue?

i think we might just stick with one, since our stocking might be pretty high anyways..and i totally forgot about this post and thought it'd be best to stick with one.

is it really just the male dwarfs that have issues with being around others of the same type.

i don't see the "lavender" varient mentioned much..but it looks really cool. i'm pretty sure we got a male. when it bends its body in the light you see the lavendar undertone, and it's got lots of dark bands not in a specific direction, red eyes, an the shiny pearls on it's fins. i think it's going to look really cool as it gets bigger and we get some good food in it.

I had a pair of lavender gouramis. They were a lovely addition to my tank (gouramis and plecs). Unfortunately I lost the female recently and am finding it impossible to locate any more. My male has been really depressed since losing his 'mate'.

At the moment I have:

1 x Pearl gourami male
3 x Pearl gourami female
1 x Blue gourami male
1 x Lavender gourami male
2 x Moonlight gourami female
2 x Gold gourami female

The two gold gourami females are the most recent addition to the aquarium and they are the only ones who are stroppy. My previous gold gourami female was never a problem. I know that the blues and golds do have a bit of a reputation for bullying/territorial. The Pearls have always been my favourites,- they are so beautiful and SO peaceful.

I used to keep dwarfs,- but found them to be quite aggressive with their tankmates. My red honey dwarfs all disappeared in no time, so I avoid them too now!

i woudl think you could just use a blue gourami female to cheer you male up..i don't really know though..but they are all so similar i don't really think he would know the difference too much haha

Thanks! Only trouble would be that I have a blue gourami male who would probably decide to pinch her!! He never took any interest in the lavender female. The shop I bought my original pair from can only obtain males,- but have me down for a definite two females if and when they ever come into their supplier.

that might be due to your individual water chemistry - hardness ph etc , as a lot of people have problems keeping dwarfs and honeys alive
i have soft water with ph of 7-7.2 , nitrates are 10-20 and drop to 0 within 12 hours of a water change and have no problems with keeping dwarf gouramis , honeys and red robin honeys alive
My honey fry - the silly male didnt even build a nest just got jiggy with the female in the middle of the community tank and picked up the eggs and spat them out near the baby net , so i just got a glass and put all the eggs in the net , the fry are about 2 weeks old now and still very tiny - only about 4-5 as i dont think some of the eggs were actually fertilized

I lost 1 dwarf since i've had them and that's cos i accidently squished it under a large big of bogwwood during a waterchange/tank reshuffle
