OK, I just bought my 3rd tank and it is cycling.... So now I have 3 tanks in my living room, each with an extension cord to plug in all the accessories. I'm afraid I have too much stuff plugged in... is this safe?

I would definitely recommend that you get one of those extension leads with the surge protectors (like the ones for computer equipment) - they're a bit more expensive but would be worth it. Good luck with your new tank !

Great idea for a surge protector... Thanks for reminding me, my computer is right next to one of my tanks!!!! So now I have 3 tanks and a computer with lots of plugs!

Depends on the fuse/circuit breakers in your home. Different things use different amps of electric power. If a breaker is a 20 amp breaker and you have 3 things on it rated at 4 amps each you're okay. If those same 3 items are rated at 8 amps each you have a problem. (I work in a maintenance shop. The guys here hate portable heaters during the winter because they carry too many amps and constantly blow the circuits.) A surge protector will keep you from frying anything if you get a power surge, but won't do a thing as far as increasing amps.

I just use a plain old power bar. It has a surge mechanism on it, but I wouldn't rely on it. Now that you mention it, it would be great for a company to make a waterproof power bar for aquarists

in my old house - i was running 2 comupters and 3 tanks all from one outlet...

I sat and worked it all out and if everything was on at the same time the max load was about 8 amps... safe but unsightly
