i went to the pet store and bought six guppies yesterday. the ratio of girls to boy was appropriate. i went home and added them to my 46 gallon tank with just one algea eater in it. the first night two males died. the next day before i left for school i had three femals and one male. when i came home i had one male one healthy female, one unhealthy female, and a dead female. tonight im down to one male(unhealthy) and a female(healthy) i had my water tested and the ph and ammonia of the tank is fine. i did a half tank water replacement today before the male got health issues. like i said the symptoms are a white mouth, the tail appearing to have tail rot, and the color of the fish dulling. this happens with all the small fish i put in my tank. even before the guppies. but the algea eater has always been fine and the fish seem to die off one at a time. whats wrong?!

Have you been buying the fish from the same store, could be the problem and how do you introduce the fish when you get home. Most importantly how long has the Tank been set up.

I would invest in some liquid test kits of your own as not all lfs are to be trusted.

For now take a sample of your water to the lfs and ask them to write the readings down for you.

For now water change and increase aeration.

Did the mouth look bleached out, or fluffy like cotton wool.

How long do you climatise the new fish for?
Always test bag water in ph and temp so you know how long to climatise new fish for.
