I have just got a clearseal 36" x 15" x 12" aquarium.
Brought a 100w heater for it and an interpet PF2 filter.

Just filled to start cycling.
(I've cycled a few tanks so no help needed there).

Curious about stocking, I'm going to move my 3 plattys out of my small tank along with a ghost shrimp.

What else would people get?
(except for guppies)

I love the idea of 1 medium sized fish and then a load of small ones but i have no clue!

Thanks,
Matt

because once the angel gets fully grown it may eat the neons, or scare they senseless at least, it better to get something bigger, if you like neons cardinals are brill, ive got 9, brought them in braintree and they are stunning, harliquins are nice too, they had purple ones in braintree that i nearly got too, di

What is your pH and/or water hardness? What decor do you plan to use (rocks, wood, plants)? What is the substrate?

I would keep only one species of livebearer per tank, so probably a schooling species alongside something else.

what about an angel […]
The tank is not anywhere near tall enough for angels and, in my experience, they are social fish.

I don't know the hardness, PH is 7.2. Planning to have a piece of driftwood and planted across the back. Ive got small gravel as the substrate.

What would you recommend?

* 3 platys
* 10-20 harlequin rasboras
* 1 pleco which maxes out at 4-6" according to PlanetCatfish OR 1m 2f Parotocinclus jumbo OR 10 Nannoptopoma sp. ‘Peru’ or N. sp. ‘Peru white’ or N. spectabilis
* 1m 2-5f dwarf gourami (or a more exciting gourami species which does not get large, for example a group of 6-15 of one species I list here: http://aquariumadventure.wordpress.com/species-for-a-60-litre-aquariums/#asian-gouramis ; gouramis (and Bettas are a type of gourami) are best kept one species per tank) instead of a cichlid as I can't think of a suitably sized one at the moment

Keep in mind that exact numbers depend on your set-up and all of those fish will benefit from decent planting.

I agree with KittyKat. Dwarf Gourami is a good mix with most tetras. I have had problems in the past with single Angels in a community tank.

That should be it really, the fish you already have in that list would benefit from larger groups and you don't have any space to add more schools, really. The gouramis would also benefit from more females as males can be aggressive.

My personal opinion and experience is that there is no excuse to have any schooling fish in a group smaller than 10-15 fish when stocking a new tank.

You should get 7 haliquins and 3 guppys
The OP has the space for a decent group of schooling fish, why are you recommending that they go for a small group? The fish would be happier with the extra 3 of their own kind. Also, how do the guppies fit in with the platys in terms of sexual aggression? After all, it is not restricted to species in most livebearers.
