Recently I've upsized to a 250L tank, and I'm thinking of moving towards a Cichlid setup.

Can anyone suggest any 'easy' Cichlids that I could add to my current stock to start a transition to a Cichlid setup? Or would it be a case of waiting and starting a new stock later down the line?

Current stock:
- 1 Angelfish
- 2 Mollies
- 2 red fin tetra
- 8 rummynose
- 3 cory
- 1 Bristlenose

Thanks!

I'd be tempted to check on compatibility further, but my initially I'd be checking on what the water is like in your area, as a general rule South American Cichlids like Soft water and Africans prefer Hard - this is very general and varies between regions but can be a good start.

If you like the angelfish and want other cichlids that may be compatible then there are some small to mid size cichlids that are very beautiful from that region, Acara's. Severums. Apistogramma, Geophagus spring to mind. Depending on which direction you want to take your tank in some of these may be suitable.

I know next to nothing about African Cichlids so I'll leave advice on that to others...

Depending on your water (pH etc) you could have dwarf cichlids, laeacara, apistogramma etc with the fish you have now, but if you wanted larger cichlids you would have to wait until the smaller fish had passed or re-home them. However some larger cichlids would not do well with the angel, blue acara can be aggressive the Aequidens Metae or yellow acara is the most placid of the aequidens - these can be kept with platies but any fry would be eaten, I have metae with platies.

Ideally I'd like to eventually move over to some larger Cichlids. But like you say it would put some of my current stock under threat, so I think that will have to be further down the line.
