you don't know JACK FISH
Well this week the house was ready to receive our fish tanks
So Monday I made a schedule for the week
Sunday: 10 and 20 gallon tanks
Monday: 30 gallon
Tuesday: 3 betta bowls
Wednesday: 90 gallon tank busters
Thursday: 50 gallon
Well Sunday was really a practice because the 10 gallon tank is basically just baby guppies and the 20 gallon houses convicts and they had eaten all their fry. I fit everything in my car and withtin 2 hours, the fish were swimming in their tanks again
Monday was a bit more difficult. The tank is much bigger then a 20 gallon and I was alone to do the move. 2 angels in it that are quite big as well. he angels were very easy to catch though so that was a relief. I had gotten some oversize fish bags from Big Al's so they worked a wonder for the angels! The rest of the fish were just rasboras, tetras and cories so they were easy to catch and bag. About 3 hours to get this big tank up and running again
Tuesday: The betta bowls were really easy. I just bagged half the water in the oversized bags and left with them, took 30 minutes total.
Wednesday: Well this was the tank I feared moving the most. 12 inch oscar, 13 inch pleco and a 9 inch bichir. There's also a 1 inch convict i had put in as a feeder but the oscar never managed to catch it so now they live together! I had drilled holes in the bottom of a small bucket in hopes of catching the oscar with it. I tried and then after being splashed a few times, i decided to remove some water, decorations and noticed the bucket i had gotten was too small. I decided to forget about the oscar for now. I scooped up the big pipe the pleco always hides in and he just stayed in there. I put the pipe in a 5 gallon bucket Big Al's lent me and the pleco was done. Put the cover on the bucket and ready to go. Then I tried to catch the bichir with the bucket with holes in it, worked like a charm. I put him in the oversized bag with the little convict.
Now it was me and the Oscar. I have no net anywhere near his size, the bucket with holes was too small. The only choice I had left was to catch him directly in the 5 gallon bucket. I put the bucket in the tank with about 50 gallons of water left. I lure him in a corner with a small net and he ended up jumping right into the bucket. I poured out some water and voila! Took the bucket out and put the lid on. The poor fish had barely enough room to stay straigh, his tail was bent, poor thing! Now I had been at it for about an hour just to get the fish out. It took me another hour to empty out the tank. I took everything and then figured out that my father in law's CRV was too small to ft this tank without suqeezing it, and I didn't want to do that. So our landlord oferred to lend me his 4x4 and the tank fit inside quite easily. The stand fit in the in law's car so off we go! Set up the tank again with filters, deocrations and heater. I wanted to find an easy way to acclimate the pleco and oscar in their buckets so I put the buckets inside the tank and started filling it up with the python
I had adjusted the water temp so it would be close to what they were used to (around 80F). The tank filled up and i poored a little bit of water into their buckets and also the floating bag with the bichir and convict in it. Released all the fish after about 30 minutes and the all went to hide in the decorations! I checked on them this morning and the water had all cleared up and the fish all looked fine already! All in all the move took 6 hours from start to finish.
Now tomorrow should be a breeze moving the 50 gallon community tank. Biggest fish is a 6 inch pleco and 3 inch gourami so not much challenge for me anymore!
