Need Some Advice !!! In about 3 weeks we are going to be moving to a new place and we will have to move our three tanks one is a 55g and the the other is 29g and the third is a 5g. the two smaller ones are fully cycled and the big one is in the process . we figured that we would just get some sterile bukets that will hold the water and transfer that way . we are only going about a block. Anyone have any suggestions and does the sterile sound ok???

Hi ya,

I got a 10g tank (my first) that was up and running for two years from this guy that lived about 15 minutes from my house. We had about 10 (varying in size) containers (that were sterile) and filled each with water from the tank, holding some plants, decorations, gravel, filters, and fish. When we got to my house we set everything up and all was well. The only real pain was capturing the fish and collecting the gravel.

:) Try to keep as much of the water from each tank as you can, keep all filters and gravel wet. Cover the buckets with towels or blankets to keep out as much light as possible, this helps the fish cope with the stress better.

Over the next three weeks do lots of gravel cleaning so that when you move the tank,it isn't going to be like peasoup after re-filling.

Give the filters a clean a week before you move, this means they will be ready to get rid of any mess in the tank and won't get dirty so quickly.

Don't feed the fish the day before the move, this means you get less mess in the buckets when you put the fish in them.

Hth :)
