How do i go about doing this? Do i transfer them with the water from the current tank there in and just add more water?
Thanks

whats your overall plan, are you wanting to keep both tanks running or just set up the new one?

Alright Hewitt,
I would try to get the new tank conditions as similar to current tank as possible;

1. Get some new sand/gravel > boil it for a while,then add.
2. Put in 20-30 % of old water along with new de-chlorined water and some old sand.
3. Set up new filter and stuff> cut off bit of old sponge and place in new filter/ on bottom of tank. (if u have internal)
4. Get tank running + cycling until tests are o.k
5. Add remaining older water/sand at stages> then acclimatise fish, as per usual.

Hope it goes well> Angels are pretty good at adapting.

(+ Maybe put in old filter along with newer one for a while...)

Thanks Rossy :)

Just running the new tank now :)

Sisters having the old one i think :D

ok if you're just keeping the new tank running it's straight forward

fill the new tank with dechlorinated water, set up the heater so it comes up to temp

add your substrate, decor, plants etc

turn off the filter on the old tank, take the media from it and put it into the new tanks filter

hook up the filter on the new tank and turn it on

check the temp of the new tank, if it's at the right range then you're ready to move the fish

remove all decor from the old tank, drain water until there's just enough to cover the fish

get 2 nets, use one net to chase the fish into the other net, when caught transfer them as quickly and steadily as possible to the new tank

when all the fish are caught and moved then turn the light on the new tank off, resist the urge to feed the fish or mess with the tank, just leave it alone for 24hrs unless you see something desperatley untoward (i.e. fish dying)

drain the rest of the water from the old tank, tidy it all away

next day check the levels on the new tank, if there's any ammonia or nitrite (shoudln't be if you follow above instructions but you never know) then do a large water change

Thanks Alot
Going to do this with in 10 days my rents goin on hols soon sowhen they come back :)

Rents=parents, an abbreviation. Hols=holiday, the overseas term for vacation.

ok, so I knew the holiday one but the "Rents" is truly a new one on me. What do you think (?) is it limited to being a UK abbreviation or is it in wider use in text messaging or something? As an abbreviation it has a bit of double-meaning potential as older kids might think of parents they live with as "providing rent." (or was that the abbrev history to begin with, lol)
