NOT AN EMERGENCY YET...... BUT HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE.....
Ok so in the next month or so I am moving house. I have a Jewell 190 and all of a sudden I have a headache and stress about moving the tank and fish with as little stress to my little fishy friends. I know I am going to have to empty the tank and put the fish in some sort of travel container, but whilst I have been looking around I have not seen anything that would be suitable for transporting from old house to moving van then moving van to new house. I am terrified that during transportation the bottom of the container my fall through and then I will have a lot of fish flapping on the ground. NIGHTMARE

I moved in the summer and it isn't easy but plan it well and it shouldn't be too stressful. I went to a local fish shop and got a load of fish bags and double bagged all my fish once caught. I then lined a box with an old quilt, put the bags in the quilt then wrapped them up to stay nice and warm. Broke the test of the tank down, packed up and moved. Set the tank back up straight away in the new place and added the fish as soon as up to temp. Turned it around in about 6 hours and didn't lose any fish. Best of luck!

I like the idea of the fish bags and now I feel a whole lot better about the whole thing. I dont know why I didnt think of this, I suppose I was to stressed about getting a container big enough to get the fish in. I was looking at getting a couple of those 80ltr plastic storage containers for the big day but my major worry was filling it with water and fish then picking it up with that volume of water and fish and the whole container just giving way as we where carrying it out to the removal van.

i used a 80L container to rescape my tank and would not recommend trying to lift one once full!!

I moved house at the start of December. Pardon my french but what a ball ache ! As for transporting your fish, i found it worked best the same tip as hilly81 suggested with bagged fish and quilts. My LFS had some big polystyreene (sorry about spelling) boxes for sale so i used them. I put my live plants in a big with some of the tank water also. I transferred as much of my water as possible and i did this by using 4 builders buckets with big platic bags in them (to make sure no dirt was transfered into my tank water) then tied the bag to avoid spillages. As the bags are in buckets there is no stress on them or chance of punctures. Plus, a full bucket is quite easy to lift and it normally comes with a handle.
Hope this helps

Best of luck
