I recently had this problem
We went to local LFS and asked for fish bags which they gave willingly.
On the day of the move we stripped out all the decor and then bagged the fish storing them in a polybox which the LFS also supplied free. Then covered the box with an old blanket for insulation and also to reduce stress.
Next we stripped out the tank completely. The sand we disposed of as we had already purchased new substrate. The filter we moved with the water still inside to preserve the bacteria.
On arriving at the new house we immediately refilled the tank with fresh water temperature matched to our requirements.
Replanted the plants we were able to save, and finally reintroduced the fish.
The whole thing worked out just fine with no fish lost. Having spent the previous few weeks worrying about it it really was not so difficult.

We've done this a few times and had no loses or illnesses.
Turn everything off.
Take out decorations, wood, plants etc. Drain tank down so you are able to catch the fish easier, but leave enough water for the bags.
Use one bag per type of fish, depending on how big they are and their temperament. Make sure you bag it with oxygen, twist and secure with elastic band. Put each fish bag inside a dark coloured plastic bag. Put bags inside polybox, which you can often get free at LFS. Put lid on, this will keep them warm.
Put all filter media in another bag with tank water and air. Make sure there's enough water to cover all the media, it mustn't dry out.
Drain the rest of the water down. Decide what you're doing with the substrate. You may want to reuise it, so scoop it out into a bucket. If not, bin it.
Make sure no water is in the tank.
Remove heaters, filters etc and package for transport.
At new house. Set tank up, heaters, filter etc. Use the water from filter media bag to put back into filter, and top up if necessary. Put substrate back into tank. Decorations etc. Fill with fresh dechlorinated water, using hot water to get up to temperature.
Switch everything on.
Float fish in bags, then acclimatise as normal.

I waited until the last possible moment to start taking the tanks down. I then took out every decor I could. Bagged the filter media in some tank water. Bagged the fish in ziplock bags. And put them all in to a snug box so they wouldn't move around much.
I can't remember if I took out all the substrate as well. Maybe took some of it out to reduce the weight of the tank. I can't remember.
