As per title, I am moving house in 3 weeks time. How exactly am I meant to move my tank and inhabitants? Will I have to bag them all up and then move the tank, fill it back up and then introduce them all again?

Cheers

It really depends on how far you're moving and how long it will tank. My suggestion would be to get some 5 gallon buckets with lids to put the fish in rather than bagging them. It will be much less stressful on them. Take about 50% of the water with you (more if the tap water at the new location is considerably different in GH, KH or pH than the current tank water. Put your filter media in a bucket of water so it stays wet (or if you have canister filters it is fiine as it is since they are full of water). Use buckets also for the substrate. Unless you have an undergravel filter, you can rinse the substrate good to remove any trash before replacing it. If the move is going to take more than a couple hours, you may have to take precautions to keep the water temp within a proper range.

Once you get there, put everything including the water and fish back in the tank, and then finish refilling. Just keep and eye on the temperature and don't raise it too quickly. It's basically the same as a large water change. As I mentioned, if the water parameters are quite different, you may want to take 75 to 80 percent of the current water just so you don't run the risk of a large swing in GH, KH or pH when you finish filling the tank.

Thanks for the article :) i was wondering about this the other day because we may be moving in the next three mths and i want to buy an 8x4x2ft tank and we currently have a 4ft.
