Moving From 40-75 Gal...cycle Questions?

I have a third 40 gal tank that was well established. I moved a filter from it to the new tank with media. I also added a new filter with all new media. Should I do a fishless cycle or can I move my fish in after a couple of days?

If the filter worked with that stock in the 40 it will work in the 75. The filter doesn't know what size tank it's running on. You could move the fish & filter all at once, just feed lightly for the next week to reduce waste produced & keep an eye on the water as a precaution.

Tolak is right, as always, but you don't want to wait long. The way I read the post is that you have already moved the filter, but not the fish. All the time you have filter media with no ammonia source (ie fish), the bacteria will be dying off.

You read right, I have moved a filter from another tank altogether but Tolak actually gave me the idea to move the filter from the tank with the fish in it when I move them over. Thanks for the advice.
