Okay so I picked up a poor little black moor yesterday that was being basically eaten by some larger african cichlids at the LFS. I put him in the 120 gallon as that is the only place I had open for him. (the ten gallon has a male betta in it and he would attack the goldy, the 29 gallon has free swimming fry in it and the goldy would most likely eat them all) So in he went into the 120 gallon for a night.

Since my male betta was having problems with his fins again (he is growing black edges around his tail) so I was thinking it may be the strong current or intake tube in his 10 gallon since there are no other fish in his tank and nothing else sharp. I also do 50% water changes every few days so the water is sparkling clean all the time. The tank is also cycled as well. So I moved him to a spare 1.5-2 gallon bowl with a moneywort plant and some micro sword with about 2 inches of smooth pebble gravel. I also added a little salt to his tank. He seems to be doing well in there.

So I now had an empty 10 gallon and decided to move the goldy into the 10 gallon. I know a goldy should have atleast 20 gallons per fish, but he/she is fairly small and I will continue doing 50% water changes every 2 or 3 days so nitrates will stay low. The tank also has good filtration hence the strong current before. He will live in the 10 gallon until I can find a secondhand 30 gallon or something larger. As soon as my boyfriend moves out into his apartment (in about a month or so) I will have TONS of space in my closet and I will take the doors off my closet and make it kind of a walk-in closet and set up another tank in there since there is another outlet very close to it.

That will be my coldwater setup. :D Where Toggle, my black moor, and another goldy (probably calico fancy tail) will go later on when I can find a tank.

There were 2 55 gallon tanks and 2 30 gallon tanks for sale in the paper today but he only had one 55 gallon left and you had to buy the oscars that came with it as well. :/ It was also 300 dollars because he had "upgraded" lights and filters.
Oh well, too much for me to afford. I have a light and a pretty good filter so all I would need is the 20-30 gallon aquarium and a stand. Oh well, my search continues.

Please tell me what you think about the betta being moved to the 2 gallon bowl and the goldy in the 10 gallon for now?

well if the current was strong in the 10 the betta should like the 2g better if it doesnt.

also, this forum says you need 20 gallons for the 1st and 10 for the others. Most places say 10 each, so you could have 2 in a 20, especially moores as they are the smallest ones. And three in a 30. Though the 20 gallons each is good for commen and commet types.

I think that the moore will be able to live out his whole life happily in the 10 gallon as he wont get that big, and it wont be fast either.

Well he seems to be having a rather hard time differentiating between sinking pellets and the brown gravel. Can they tell different colors? Like if I added purple gravel instead would it be easier for him to tell between the 2 colors? :dunno:

He was in sand before so it was fairly easy to get the flakes and at the LFS he was in a bare bottom tank. :dunno:

He seems happy in the 10 gallon by himself right now but I would eventially like to get him a friend. A 30 gallon seems good for two IMO. I'll just have to wait until one comes along I suppose. I can't see it being more than a year before I get another tank. I have another empty 10 gallon but it has no light/filter or anything, just the tank some decorations and some purple gravel.

I wish I could somehow fuse the two tanks together to make like a 20 gallon long.

Well, my fish did have the same problem as the fish that cant tell the diffrence between the gravel and pellets. They had blue first, then when they went into the ten it was brown. They eventually smelled it out, so he should be fine. But you could use floating pellets so that the fish will be able to see them.

Yea I have sinking and floating, but Toggle (my goldy) seems to be more of the bottom feeder type. He doesn't really go to the top much. :dunno:
