hi all,

lovely tanks everybody.
I would love to have a tank of cichlids, but dont have the space or money at the moment.
I was just wondering what is the smallest tank you can have to own cichlids, *mbuna's*

thanks

Hi slakey,

I've moved this from the pinned topic as that is just a photographic thread displaying tank pics.

In answer to your question, my own opinion is that you need a 4 foot tank, preferrably a 55 gal if you want to keep Mbuna. They are very active and aggressive and need this space as a minimum.

Which is pretty much the opinion of most long term cichlid keepers, myself included.

However, if you like the mbuna behavior, but can't have a larger tank, you might consider shelldwellers. They aren't as colorful, but they are great to watch and can be kept in 10gal or more.
