I just moved Flame (betta male) into his own tank - he is hiding and wont come out for food! 2 questions please.....

1. will he be ok

2. will he really be ok on his own? I keep feeling that he needs some friends

LOL sorry for being a wuss but thanks for your help

He will be fine , how big is his tank and is it heated? chances are he just needs some time to settle and re-establish his territory

It is a 48L tank with lots of nice plants and places for him to hide in and yes it is heated - to 72 degrees.

He is looking a little livelier now actually so I think he will settle :)

Thanks

Hi

Sounds like your boy has got a nice home :good: Just turn the heater up a bit, 76-78 will be better :good:

Any change will take them a little while to get used to, but he will be absolutely fine on his own. We have 29 that are all housed separately or in divided tanks and are very happy and active.

Thanks guys :)

have turned the temp up to 77 degrees - hopefully that will keep him happy!

Lots of people seem like they move their Betta to a bigger tank, then decide it's not working out before the fish has had a chance to explore. When you move your fish to a different home, give it time to settle in and establish its territory.

Be careful about attributing human emotions such as loneliness to your fish. Bettas are not social creatures. There are some species that they can tolerate, but they don't long for companionship. Even males and females will fight. So use caution and research before trying to give your Betta some company.

he is definitely just sulking! give him time. Bettas can be VERY sulky :p Make sure to fill the tank with plants and decorations, they love to explore
