Hi

One of my molly fry....nearly 3 month old...I noticed tonight its mouth seems stuck open...have searched on the forum, to find a solution to what may have caused this, but have not found much at all...it has nothing stuck in its mouth...I have had a good look and there is no obstruction....it is swimming around no problem, and seems to beable to feed...obviously not aswell as the other fish....but seems to be eating....I just want to know if there is anything I can do...?

I have watched it, and although as I said it seems to be feeding...I just don't want to risk anything if it is not able to feed properly....what I mean is...I am not prepared to watch it die...I would rather put it out of it's misery if need be.

Can you get a pic? Does it look like part of the mouth is missing, or is it like the mouth is genuinely stuck open?

All the best

Heard of mouth stuck open before and had the same thing happen with harlequins, sadly they usually end up dieing.
Never seen one surivive yet with a stuck open mouth.

I cannot get a pic no...!

I have kept my eye on the molly and it seems like its mouth had shut now...strange...but true.

Ok thats good then.
Stuck open mouths can be something lodged in the mouth, sores or ulcers in the mouth.

Its common on poor quality interbred fish, it can be as mentioned food or such but also can be deformities as well.
