Hi, I have a little female red eye puffer that seems to have developed some kind of infection on/around her mouth. I've taken a photo but unfortunately it doesn't show this very clearly. It's a white spot/lump that seems a little furry, almost like cotton wool. I'm sure she's had this for about a week now and initially it seemed to almost clear up by itself, but is now back again. I'm particularly worried now as for the last couple of days she has hasn't eaten and rather than coming to the front of her tank when she sees me she's been hiding in the plants.

From doing a quick bit of research on the web it looks like some of the photos of fish that have mouth fungus. I have Pimafix that claims to treat fungus, so should I try that? I've also got Myxazin, Interpet Internal Bacteria and Melafix, if they would be of any use.

Treat with eSHa 2000 it covers most finrot fungus and bacterial infections

What are your water stats? Ammonia and nitrite

How big is the tank?

When was it set up?

Thanks, I'll have a hunt round the fish shops in my area today for some eSHa 200. Ammonia and nitrite are both zero and the tank, which is 60 litres, has been set up for about 6 months now.

Use the anti internal bacteria med by interpet and pimafix.
Make sure the mouth not rotting away.

Thanks for the advice guys. Just to say that I'm now on day 2 of the 3 day eSHa2000 treatment (bought and added to the tank before I saw Wilder's reply) and the fungus seems to have almost cleared up - just a very small patch remaining, which I hope will have disappeared by tomorrow. The puffer ate brine shrimp today so she must be feeling better as well as looking better :)

make sure you finish the course of the meds if they have helped hun
and keep an eye on the fish over the days after treatment ends - if you see any symptoms re appear then re treat again - full course
