Can mountain minnows be kept with fish such as cardinal tetras and the like? if not what can they be kept with?

they can but they age quickly in warm water. If you keep the temperature around 22C then they will be ok.
They get along well with Medakas, danios & smaller species of barbs.

i would agree with colin, its a tad too warm for them.

I bought two white cloud mountain minnows about two years ago. One died a couple weeks later. I still have one of them today. He is in my community tank with my danios and guppies and mollies and rasboras and gouramis (dwarf). I've never had a problem. The temp is about 78F I don't know what that is in centigrade though.
