I have been struggling to control the growth of a white fluffy mould that keeps forming on the bogwood in my tank. I have had the wood out several times to scrub it clean and last time poured boiling water onto the wood but it has still returned. :(

Is there any wat I can get rid of it as it is getting more and more disruptive to take the wood out and scrub it off as I am adding a lot more plants to the tank to try to keep my nitrates down. The lumps of bogwood are quite large and heavy.

Any suggestions gratefully recieved

I regularly microwave my bogwood for 30 seconds
on high power (850w microwave)
this dosn't totally dry it out but kills any bugs, spores
etc that is living on it.

edit
let it cool down before adding back to the tank.

it wont fit my microwave.... :( ...........and if dried at all it would float  .................and wouldnt it kill the java moss on the wood ??? (I've just got it to 'stick' in the last few weeks) :D

any more suggestions??

I know when I first got mopani wood it also grew this white fungus stuff. As far as I know it is naturally occurring and there is no way of stopping it but it will disappear for ever after a short while. It is totally harmless to all fish and plants. I remember I really panicked when i first saw it, tried to boil the wood scrub soak it for ages but it always still came back when I put it back in the tank. I think you will just have to live with it being unsightly for a few weeks.

The thing is we have had the tank and the wood for overa year now - does this seem right?
