Afternoon all,

Just a quick question, we've had a tank set up for well over a week now but there appears to be some white mould like substance on one piece of bogwood. What would be best to do, maybe remove it and clean the wood? It was soaked for 48 hours before being placed in the tank and the water is crystal clear.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Strange, I even left it in boiled water several times to clear it of any rubbish. Just out of interest do you have some particles in the water as well?

i did the exact same thing and by particles do you mean little bits of bog wood? i did have that problem for the first few days.. but it made it to my filter so all was well.

looks like it could be, I'm probably just being overly paranoid! just done a "google" on the issue and can't decide what would be best i.e. remove and clean it off or just leave it alone as it's bound to be something natural growing on wood.

i took mine out and cleaned it twice, and then ran it through the dish washer( no soap, just water) and it still grew back!

I had the same issue and ended up scrubbing it off with a brush. Like you i started to get paranoid when i first noticed it.

Keith.

I had a little of this while cycling, and just ignored it.

Either the snails or the fish have eaten it, because it's gone now!

Think I am just going to leave it, only a little bit here and there, so shall see if it spreads/gets worse. Not worth disturbing the tank till the next water change anyways. Shall keep an eye on my levels to see if they change. Thanks for the replies :)

Minor deposits of white material during a cycle seem to be quite common. If that is your only symptom of your cycle, you are doing just fine. Keep going as you have been.
