Motion/cycle Lighting

Hello, I've been searching for similiar topics but not found anything as such, sorry if there was and I've missed it!

I've been researching into lighting and I'd really love to have the cycle system (as found on those LED BioOrb bowls) to have a gradual fade in/fade out light set up. I have seen the AquaFX range, but for my 5ft tank I'd need the additional bulb so that'd take me to £300 mark and all the features such as red/green/purple tank colourations - not my cuppa tea!

The second set up was the TMC Aquaray, not much cheaper but has the option of the control box to program lighting and has the fade in fade out, again I'm not sure on the number of lights I'd need for 5ft, I've seen some tanks on Youtube that have them overlapping in the mid-section.

All in all, I'm mighty confused! I know the desired outcome I just need to know the route! (I've seen the cheaper DIY option of using Blue Cathodes, do these give the same shimmering affect of the LED, or would a cheap LED do in combination with an ordinary lamp.

Well, I've done more reading and I'm still none the wiser into this. I'm imagining that for my 5ft tank I would need at least 3 LED units from the Aquaray set which would be say £240, plus a £70 controller (which apparently only works 1 twin/single so would need 2 ) The other option I've seen is the Profilux, but I can't find any 'beginner's guide' info for it and I'd hate to spend even more on a setup like that without knowing much!

It's a pickle really, I'd hate to buy a lighting setup that didn't provide the result I wanted to, to then spend even more money afterwards replacing it - neither do I want to spend money on something I can't work. I presume with these Profilux setups you only get the computer at that price and not the lights.. Perhaps I'll settle for the Aquabeam Gro-Beam afterall
