Hi all,

I'm looking at getting some moss to cover some of my bog wood as I have shrimps and corys and i'd think the shrimp especially would like it.

Is there a moss-type that stays short and relatively neat, kind of like cut-grass? I'm sure I've heard of one but can't think of the name!

I have xmas moss and the shrimp like that too.

Java moss is good for shrimps, but it doesn't stay how you want it unless you trim it all the time. Christmas moss would be better as would the weeping ferrei variety i believe.

Thanks :)

I'd like to have a half-sand, half-moss sort of setup, does this work? I've been looking at http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Riccia-Java-moss-plant-mesh-and-netting-x-2-/250758469715?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Fish&hash=item3a625e9853#ht_1227wt_1082 for a base to put it in. Would this suit christmas moss?

Yes that would work i guess, but i would tie it to some wood then when it covers it will be all different levels with undulations which will add to the effect. You could also tie it to some stones or pieces of slate which would create a more flatter scape.

I bought mine already tied to wood, but I'm sure it would do just fine grown on mesh; I've seen it done, just haven't done it myself; though I will one day (I have a plan to moss the back and sides of a two footer I have spare and stock it with dwarf emerald rasboras and shrimp. All the hardware will be behind the back wall).

Thanks, i'll look into it. I found java-moss a real pain to "tie down" to things... i'm thinking of possibly small stones, or "moss balls" ? The bog-wood will be tricky though, best way to do this?

Does anyone know also where you can find mesh made for a backdrop of a Juwel Lido 120?

61 x 41 x 58 cm for example is the measurements I need for a mesh-wall, but I have no idea where to buy this size. Was wondering if anyone online sold this.

I just used cotton to tie mine down. Wrapped it round a few times (about 5) and mine is doing fine. If it is placed near a filter intake though as it will suck pieces off. I personally wouldn't use the mesh incase it reacted to the water and started to release toxins. This probably wouldn't happen but i would always be worrying hence why i use rocks and wood. lol.

Some people use fishing line, tie wraps, super glue...

Egg crate is used in marine tanks, so that's safe; there's loads on Ebay, and I know people have used the plastic canvas stuff they make for cross stitchers, but that's not rigid, so might be more difficult to use.
