Contemplating a moss ball or two for my tank, are they bad for other plant life or just compete with algae, though to be honest i don't have an algae problem as it is so it's no problem :)

There is a myth that it may produce alleochemicals which would restrict some other plants growth, however in my experience I have had no problems keeping moss balls in planted tanks.

They definitely don't reduce algae in my tanks

TRUE, may reduce algae if your tank was full of them otherwise just a plant, i keep them in a planted tank (last few plants arriving next wk) and they live fine. My plec likes to 'play football' and roll it around the tank ha ha

I only plan to have one I think, just thought they looked pretty cool :) and like i said i don't get much algae anyways :)

They go good in any tank really...As they grow on the bottom of lakes little light is needed for them to grow. However....They grow less than .25 on and inch a year, so you won't see any appreciable growth in them. They do not compete with other plants, and most fish won't give them second notice. I'd go ahead and get one or two for your tank.

Also, don't worry if they start floating once in a while, this is totally natural. They fill with oxygen and then lift to the surface.
