Moss Balls

Has anyone got any or had any and could give me a little info on them? They are expensive at my FS so don't want to buy some if they die off quickly or whatever.

they are very hardy i find

if you dont tie them to something and let them roll on their own they stay green ive kept one in my 0.89 wpg tank

and it survived well

every once in a while i rinse it out

its allmost like a small filter

they move by thierselfs over time from one end to the other and back its kinda cool

keep with co2

watch out for fish and snails that will eat it

recommended and deffntly worth it! B)

Ah well I have two big apple snails that have a big appetite. Fish are Danios, Cories, clown plec, neons and amano shrimp. I don't add any CO2 either. It's a heavily planted tank though (anubias, elodea and java fern). I think they look so cool but no pointin getting them if they will be eaten.

I got 3 moss balls for £5 at my LFS - how much are they at yours?

I was advised to turn them regularly so they keep their shape - otherwise they will start to grow like a carpet - and don't "bury" them in the substrate. Debris seems to get attracted to them and my fish and plec just nibble the food off.

I think they are very cool but I would try another LFS of they are expensive at yours as they are very cheap at mine!

Have a look on this site Most I can find about them but they seem to be prety hardy and easy to keep.

If you can find them cheaper I would definitely get some!

Not sure what I'm doing wrong here but you can click on the above one and go to the plant section where you'll find about Moss Balls - I got there initially from a Google search so try that as well.
