I've read you can simply separate the origanal peice into several pieces to propagate them.
is this corect?

Oh yea, I just bought one yesterday and I think they're pretty cool. :D

Hiya,

Yeah thats right, just tear it into two, roll it around in your hands to make it round and it will do fine.

You may find you have to roll them now and then so they keep their shape but yeah they are cool things

Thanks Sime.
I also read that after you separate them you can let them grow "flat", like a mat rather than a ball.

I'm going to try both methods.

:D

yeah they grow pretty fast, the one on the left here was taken from the one on the right...

... theres a nice tank in the small section of the AGA this year who has left them to grow flat like a carpet.

Can I just ask what are they?. What tye of moss is it?

I am kind of a sucker for strange and wacky things and kind of feel like getting one. However, I am kind of short of money at the minute and don't really think it would fit in with the natural design I am trying to achieve.

I believe its called cladophora (or something along that lines). And I think it would make a very natural look. If you are using driftwood, put some of this on the branches and it will give it an old, weathered look.

where did you get yours from been after some for a while

they sell them on ebay thats where i got mine. mine has grown pretty slow. i've torn bits off and stuck it in the gaps of the bog wood i have in my tank that looks quite good! it's actually a type of alge they will grow into a carpet if spread out flat. they're found in balls in the wild because of the current in the water moving them around! ;)
