Moss.....ball?

I was at my lfs today and they were selling a moss ball. What exactly is it, and what are it's needs in terms of plant care?

I did. I am getting mixed information though. Some people say they need lots of light, and some people say too much kills them. Who is right?

since I have yet to successfully kill algae (and moss balls are a type of algae) i would doubt the killing statement!

Mine are still going strong in my small, relatively dark tank with no special lighting etc. I also have a few extras in jars on the windowsill (full sun) and there is no difference between the two.

Mine are quite happy in low light. Stays same dark green colour as when I first bought them. I used to have a piece of it in a breeding trap i.e. very near the light. It just floats because of the pearling.

I have one in a medium light tank (certainly not low light) and it is doing well and looks good. The Shrimp like it too. I squeeze mine out (in old tank water) and roll it occasionally as well, they begin to lose their shape if I don't although my Apple Snail pushes it around and rolls it for me sometimes .
