Hi I covered some wood in java moss a couple of months ago. I tied it on with fishing line every few cm. I noticed that my barbs were nipping at it and after a few weeks there were bold patchs now it has all come off. Is this something that barbs do or did I not tie it down enough? I want to try again with moss but the last lot made a mess of my tank and my filters.

It's the barbs not your tying. As a rule barbs are not good planted tank inmates as they constantly pick at leaves. You can try hardy thick leaved plants like anubias etc. or supplementing their diet with greens but in my experience greens have limited effect, they just seem to enjoy aquatic plants better than lettuce, cucumber etc.
