I keep my 5g and 15g in my bedroom which is a small one and I was wondering: if I put one of those machines for the mosquitoes will it harm my fish? I’m referring to those little machines that heat and you place a tablet that releases fumes that keep mosquitoes away (I hope you understand). And what about insect and cockroaches sprays, if you spray for example some meters away from the tank… I guess my fish won’t appreciate that right? If it matters both my tanks have a lit.

Those repellants release chemicals into the air, which could be absorbed by the water in your tank.

I wouldn't risk it.

If absolutely neccesary, I would at least put some carbon in your filter to absorb the excess chemicals.

The active ingredient in almost all insecticides is extremely toxic to all aquatic life, so I wouldn't risk it.

The mosquito tablets should have details on them of how to get advice from the licence holder (all poisons have to be licenced before they can be put on the market)
The licence holder or the manufacturer (usually the same company) should be able to tell you for sure.

:-( Thanks you all , no more quiet summer sleep for me… well I guess one of those creams that stink would do. They keep mosquitoes and everyone else away

raid makes a new clove based bug killer you might look into that.

Thanks for all you ideas guys, i'll see what works best... not the spiders though

why dont you buy one of those co2 systems that attact mosquitoes? or get somebody to eat a banana before they go to sleep, so they all go to them
Sounds crazy, but it's true.

Mosquitos 'hunt' by tracing the exhaled carbon dioxide in animals breath to the source and for some reason, people who have recently eaten bananas are much more likely to be bitten than people who haven't.

Bananas? I'll get some for my boyfrient  (just jocking). But i'm impressed i didn't know that

You could always just invest in some flypaper or a bug zapper?
Put a bug zapper above your tank and you'll be killing two birds with one stone... getting rid of mosquitos and giving your fish a tasty snack
