good thing the panda garras are so gentle with the plants... this coffeefola in the center of the tank has been their morning habit, since I added it to the tank... it's not unusual to see 4 of the 5 on this plant... there was 3 when I thought of taking the picture, but 2 felt photogenic, and stayed... the plant seems to be doing well, growing, albeit slowly like they normally do... it's become one of my favorite anubias

anyone know how this plant became coffeefola??? maybe because with the slightly scalloped leaf edges it loosely looks like a coffee plant??? maybe the person naming it just liked their coffee???

I think it's called coffeefolia because the leaves resemble a coffee plant's.

It's Anubias barteri, really. It's a cultivar line bred out of that west African plant, with 'coffeefolia' as the trade name/brand on it.

I'm being a fake expert because it's something I'd wondered about, and your question inspired me to look it up on a couple of sites.

This is one of my favorite Anubias. I have propagated it many times over the last 22-23 years. Mine seem to grow bigger than what Tropica lists as their max size. GaryE is correct at to how it was named. Tropica lists it as a cultivar of Bartieri:

Anubias barteri var. coffeifolia is a very beautiful, low cultivar of Anubias barteri. 15-25 cm tall and a creeping rhizome from 10-15 cm or more.It is characteristic that the leaves arch considerably between the leaf ribs, and the new leaves are red-brown. The colour combination and leaf shape make it an attractive variety in both large and small aquariums. It flowers frequently under water but does not produce seeds there.Anubias species seem to grow so slowly that they do not realize that they have been submerged. It is not eaten by herbivorous fish.
