I received my plants yesterday, and added them to the tank. I'm pretty happy with them, but I'm just not sure what they are. He identified some through e-mail, and some he was unsure of. So I took some better photos today, and thought I would post here just to try and get a few peoples opinion to be sure. I just want to make sure I read up on each kind and take care of it appropriately. Also, in the first picture, not sure what the plant is, but is the brown spots on the underside normal?

(Please look at spots and identify plant)
Pic #2 same plant as #1, but front view

Pic #3 the plant in the foreground, with the slight pink leaves towards the top

Pic #4 plant on the far left with the crazy roots (I was told Java fern, but looking up pictures the roots don't match, thats why I wanted a second opinion)

Pic #5 the dark purple leaves on top and greener at the bottom in the very front.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

1. Java fern (needs to be out of the substrate and on a bit of wood or rock, they don't do well with the rhizome buried)
2. Same
3. Hygrophila Rosavig
4. Crypt wedtii green
5. Ludwigia of some kind

The melting leaves are not good but the black dots are used by the plant to breed so no need to worry about those.

Remove the melted leaves. They won't heal :good: If the java fern gets all spikey, don't toss it out like I did  With patience you could end up with hundreds of baby ferns.

Thanks guys! I will remove the old leaves.. does that go for all plants? Should I remove dead, or dying leaves from them?

I remove anything thats dying. Even in non-aquatic plants around the house or garden, removing dead leaves can promote new growth. Dead leaves can produce ammonia.
