So I was using the wrong ammonia and I replaced all the water and cleaned the tank very well. Blah blah blah, I put in what is close to 11-12ml of "Clear Ammonia." Someone suggested 4ml is fine for a 30 gallon tank but unfortately that didn't even get me to 1ppm.

So anyways, I get it to 5ppm and within 12 hours the baterica is processing it all within 12 hours or less. However my god damn nitrite is still sky high!!!!!!! As soon as i test the nitrite it turns purple at the bottom of the tube almost immediately. My PH is fine, around 7.4-7.6. My nitrates are high as you would normally expect. When will my nitrite drop? This is really bugging me because I want to get my dwarf chiclids (spelling!:))

So in sum of things:

Hour one : I add 11-12ml of ammonia rasining it to 5PPM

Hour 12 : Ammonia reading 0ppm / Nitrite & Nitrate are off the chart

Hour 12 : Add 11-12ml of Ammonia

Hour 24 : Ammonia reading 0ppm / Nitrite & Nitrate are off the chart

Get where my concerns are?

your nitrites are turning to nitrates so you can now do a 50% water change, wait 2 days then test again if nitrites are 0 then your tank is cycled, do another 50% water change if your nitrates are still above 50 this should then reduce them,

You need to keep adding ammonia every time it gets back to 0, until ammonia and nitrite are both 0. Dont worry about nitrate, that will be fixed by a big water change after you have ammonia and nitrite at 0.

Its just a case of continuing to add ammonia and waiting i'm afraid.

Don't do water changes when you are doing a fishless cycle. Just be patient. It takes up to a month to fishless cycle a tank. The only way to speed things up is to get holf of some sponge and cermic media from a mature filter I'm afraid.

:good:
