More Fish

i need a new centrepiece fish... any ideas? they need to be hardy as i dont seem to have much luck with fussy ones
this is my current stock level:

6 neon tetras
2 penguin tetras (i know about the numbers, had some bad advice)
1 Platy
2 female molly, 1 white 1 dalmation
2 Cory (they are silvery but not sure which types of cory? think 1 male 1 female as one is quite larger than the other, again i know about the numbers)
1 ancistrus (female i think as no bristles, and has yellow stripes / markings on tail and head etc)

i would also like to increase the cory numbers but the ancistrus seems to be a bit bullyish already with these 2...

its a lido 120 with standard juwel 600 filter (for now as looking at aps1000 currently)

i'm not sure about your centrepiece fish, but with regards to the cory's........ Maybe if you increase the numbers(which cory's prefer anyway) the pleco would stop bullying them. Safety in numbers!! lol, :lol:

May I suggest a male Siamese Fighting Fish? As far as I'm aware your fish are all compatible with one.

Plus Fighters are used to living in small murky jars or containers (thats the way it is in Northern Irish petstores anyhow). They're a hardy enough species in my opinion =)

i already had a male betta, he died after about 15 months....just stopped being sociable and sat near the filter all the time, week later he died

He also used to chase my molly's and flare at them?

Personally I would up the number of tetras (neon and pengiun) and corys before you consider adding another species. Maybe 15 neon and 8 pengiun, and 6 corys in total. Not sure about stocking level but that's the kind of numbers I would consider for those fishes.

i have a lido 120... those numbers be ok ?? i started with 10 tetras nearly 18months ago, these are whats left, the others got neon tetra disease so far as i could tell... and were constantly fighting... now they are a happy shoal so dont want to upset them again.

1 thing i do want is another platy

love my bright red platy.. even if he was the source of a whitespot outbreak i had last year

(new additional fish at the time)

I have put three Bolivian Rams (2f, 1m) and three Opaline Gourami's (2f, 1m) as my centre pieces and they are stunning and full of character. I would increase the cory's, they will do much better in numbers. If you are near Northamptonshire, then I have some Red Parrot platty's going free to a good home, my five had babies and I currently have 15 babies that I want to get re-homed and they are a lovely platty (picture below)

Centrepiece fish - A Cichlid pair such as Rams or Apistogramma (both needing soft, acidic water for long term success). OR Keyhole/Festive cichlids which are not too aggressive for a larger species and will not eat your fish (these will also tolerate a wider range of water chemistry).

As said, add more Penguin Tetras/Corydoras as they feel safer in larger groups.

Also the 'Ancistrus' doesn't sound like a BN to me.. yellow stripes? :blink:
