so i have 2 clown loaches in my 75 gallon
they need to be in groups but they also get big
so which is more benificial
get 2 more clown loaches so they are happy in their shoal and give them to lfs when get really big
or just keep the 2 i have as they are small at the moment???

Personally I don't see the point of buying fish and then giving them back to the shop when you have no more space for them when grown. Basically all you're doing by that is renting some fish for a while unless the store gives you money for them, which isn't likely to happen as large adult fish will be harder to sell than "cute" baby ones.

I think your best bet would be to re-home/sell ect the two you have now and get a species more suitable for the size of your tank rather than wait for them to either outgrow it or live in such a small group and be unhappy or unsettled in some way.

Looking at your signature, I think you really ought to add more fish to your tetra and rasboro groups. They are schooling fish, and 4 is really not enough. In a tank that size you can easily have 10-15 of each type to create a beautiful school of each.

i hav checked with my lfs and they said when i bought them they would happily take them back whenever i need to so no problem there
yes i am planning on adding to my shoals anyway in the near future
also i have no problem in buying the fish and giving them back later on cos clown loaches take so long to grown to that size i might have upgraded tank size by then anyway

If you are not prepared to rehome them, then it is worth upping the group to 5.

In a 75 you have almost certainly got a matter of years before the clowns will get too big for the tank. Add to this that clown loaches are one of the few fish with a notable appreciation in price and I would recommend that you get a group going in there.
