"It's a....rock. Hmm." (Look at that black and white! It's never gonna look that bright and clean again!)

That..... is just too darn adorable

 They are so adorable. Where are you keeping Callis foal? Such a shame, she was so gorgeous. But at least she had the foal before the heart attack. :/

As usual, I second the nominations for POTM. They are just so gorgeous. How is that tiny one doing, the 12 inch foal?

Keep well and thanks for the lovely pics, Carmen :D

Thanks so much for the comments!

Synirr - I know...I struggle to not sit there and coo everytime I'm out there.

KathyM - Thanks for the nominations and comment!

Carmen - The last picture is the 12" foal, she's doing awesome. Running around now, playing with her buddies...mom couldn't care less right now.

I know, it was such a shame about Calli. :( But it's true what you said, at least she did. Her foal is actually at someone else's house right now, who can take around-the-clock care of him. He's doing awesome though.

Mantis - Thanks for the seconds! And all the exclamation points, I like enthusiasm! :p

The foals look great Annastasia! I like the darker pinto is it? I'm terrible with horse coat types? Brown, black, white, those I can handle, anything else, I'm pretty much clueless. I read an article once that explained everything, but I was reading while my mom was getting the car's oil changed, didn't retain much of it.

Let's see....how can I make this simple.

Pinto and Paint are used pretty much interchangeably, however Paint can also be a breed of house. Like an American Paint.

For the colors, black and white is piebald. Black and any other color is skewbald. Tobiano refers to which type of coloring they have (can describe either piebald or skewbald) and it means they have white across the back. Overo does not have any white across the back. So the first foal would be a piebald tobiano. Does that make any sense?

I can go on about the 5 major colors, and variations...if you dare. :p

And thanks for the comment. :)

 :shout: :hyper: (Runs to grab another cup of coffee...)

EDIT: Have the other cup of coffee now. Now I get it. Finish the job. :good:

Gorgeous foals! I'm so sorry to hear about you losing the beautiful mother on the the other thread. It looks the new generation is trying hard to fill her (horse) shoes though; just look at all of those wonderful little babies. I don't know where you find the time!

Okay, here goes lldjma!

There are 5 basic coat colors, and 5 variations. Once you get these down, you can name basically every horse, and then you just have to fine-tune it for a specific horse, like a "bay with two white stockings". So here are the 5 basic!
  • Black - Basically as the name says, the horse is black. True black horses are somewhat hard to find, because they cannot have any brown on them anywhere. Usually you find what looks like a black horse, then you discover he has a brown nose. Which makes him a very dark brown.
  • Brown - Once again, it pretty much is what the name says. Brown body, mane, and tail. They can have any markings.
  • Bay - This is basically a brown horse, with a black mane and tail. The shades of brown they come in can range anywhere from very light to almost black.
  • Chestnut/Sorrel - This color is a reddish brown, with the same color mane and tail. There is some varation in the colors, of course, but they usually look pretty similar.
  • White - This is also an extremely rare horse. Most "white" horses have black or dark skin, which then classifies them into gray (which is a varation). The horses have to basically be albino for them to be considered white.
Now, there are 5 variations.
*Computer is blanking out on me, will add in later. *

Thanks for all the comments! :)

brown vs bay is weird. i've heard brown has the black mane and tail, but they don't have the black points like a bay does. :S

annastasia, do you have any pictures of your stud(s)?

Hmmm...never heard that. As far as I know, brown can have the black points, but they have to have the brown mane and tail. Bays have a black mane and tail, and they can have black points too. It's hard to tell sometimes though, because you're like...is that dark brown or black?? :S

For the Minis? Yeah, I do...I just need to dig them up. :p
