Moral Question

Sounds like you will feel really guilty if you steal them. Personally, however little they feel for their fish, I imagine that having something stolen by someone who is a familly freind and trusted to some extent would be a terrible feeling.
Also, the chances are that all that'll happen is they'll realise its you and replace the fish -it's not really getting you any further forward.
Ask them directly if you can take the fish from them, as you like them and they've said they find them boring. If you have to, offer them some small amount of cash for them. I'd go for raving about how much you like their cory, which will either mean they'll value it more themselves or else be more prepared to sell/give to you.

mmm, ok well it's tricky indeed.

Have you asked outright if you could have (or buy) the fish ?

If you have, it might be a bit suspect if the fish disappears shortly after one of your visits.

What if this friends sees "his" fish in your tank ?

It's a really really difficult decision, but I would more than likely not touch it. Something like that has a habit of haunting one or coming back when least expected. Just not worth it :/

I think you're right bloo. I wouldn't steal the fish, but I would try and persuade him to give/sell it to you.

I think you should just let the fish suffer because I think you care more about your relationship with your brother and his friend than some fish.

i say grab a vacuum, and algae scraper adn go clean their tank for them. and give them a bag of catfish pellets and stuff. and make lots of threats... threats are good

That's a good idea, too. If he doesn't want to give you the fish, insist that you come over once a week to do a water change/cleaning/feeding. Even though it's a lone cory, at least it can have clean water and some food.

Next time your over there put the TV on Animal Planet and try to catch one of the Animal Cops shows...maybe they will get the point. If not I say f**k it and take the fish! That's how I got one of my cats. These people were locking him in a tiny room with no room to run around, filthy litter, and he was very underweight. My husband and I stopped by one day when they were out, "clawed" the screen window and swiped him. Now I know this is not the morally correct thing to do  but he was not being taken care of or a beloved family pet, he was an after thought, which is what this fish is. BTW...My boy is now fat and happy and to this day they still think he ran away!

That, as they say, is that. Looked into the tank today, and got a shock. Thought the cory changed colors for a sec, then realized, it's new. They went and got another cory and another otto to replace the one (or two) that they used to have. So, it looks as if they aren't done with the tank yet. I'm just going to give it timme and see what happens, if it continues goiing downhill, the fish are leaving with me.

One way or another.
