Mopani Wood

so i have a piece of mopani root wood, knew it had to be soaked before putting in the aquarium but wondered for how long should i do it, and if i soak it will it stop the wood from floating as it doesn't seem to want to sink down at the moment ?

it should stop it from floating and until the water go's clear... it could take months my bit took about 3 weeks todo

so am i ... you could heat it up a little... and then let it cool (not to boiling though) it will leach a little faster then. also add a bit of salt to the water on like the first 2 changes (speeds it up by drawing the water from the cells via osmosis) some people dont recommend adding salt. but if your soaking it for longer after you add it i dont see a problem with it (it will be so dilute by the end.)

All the mopani i used (and there is alot) is gives of tannis for months if i use boiling water, hotwater the tannis last a few weeks.

i used oak i found with mine. not a problem so far seems to be holding up =]
