Hi guys, i've just brought some of this mopani wood, i've got it sat in a bucket of water at the moment, i've been told to leave it in there for two days then put it in my tank, but the fish store told me that, just unsure wether to belive it on not lol...

How long would you leave it in soak for befor adding it to the fish tank? Don't want my water to go crappy!

Is it easy to attach plants to aswell?

Thanks :)

hmmm...my limited experience of mopani would suggest put it in! Bogwood I would definately soak but mopani had success just adding, though will also add it wouldnt do harm to soak it for a couple of days

generally it just needs soaking for a day or so to make it sink. Bogwood is a different matter altogether

ive always found bogwood never releases tanins but mopani releases loads

Guess there must be many types then as I weighted down a piece of Mopani wood straight out of the box and not a hint of tanins yet a used piece of bog wood given to me turned one of my tanks into a tea urn!

Thanks for replys guys, well it was a nice heavy peice, sunk in the bucket easy... just didn't want my tank water to go yucky lol. I'll check the bucket of water now, see what the water is like in there :)

Water in the bucket is bascily clean, just abit of dust thats came off the wood realy... it's been on soak for 16 hours?

I'm off to work now, but i'll be back from work arround 1pm this afternoon, i can just drop it straight into the tank can't i? The woods in cold water soaking though... would this effect putting it in the tank? Need to soak it in walm water or anything?

Thanks guys :)

it should be fine to put in. if it does discolour your tank and you dont like it tanned then adding carbon to the filter will take out any colour within a few days :good:
