I only ask since I'm in the middle of a fishless cycle and all's been going really well until monday this week, when after having ammonia readings of 0 for over a week, I cant seem to get them down below 1 ppm at the moment.

The only thing that is different is that I added mopani wood to the aquarium over the weekend, and it is leaching tannins into the tank.

Could the tannins, or the likely drop in pH have an effect on the nitryfying bacteria?

:dunno:

Wood shouldn't do anything to the bacteria. I've added wood before during and after cycles started and never had them affect it.
