I've just put my wood in a bowl to soak before it's ready for the tank but one of the pieces is floating... Is there a way to stop it floating or do you just discard it as a bad piece so to speak, also anything I should be doing whilst this is soaking ?? How often do I change the water ??

It will leech for ages mate. To enable it to sink I would put a rock on it for a week until fully saturated.

i would imaging giving time all wood will sink at some point if it floats while your soaking it tie a stone to it or weigh it down so it sinks to give it a proper soak in time it will sink itself and you should change the water 3 times a day (some people do some dont)
