Mopani Root

Hi all ive just brought a large piece of mopani root (approx 20" X 8") and i was enquiring if i need to do anything before i place it in my tank , it is quite light in color compaired to some which looked dirty , also what effect if any will it have on PH ???

A lot of people like to boil these to clean it. Boiling also helps remove extra tannins that are still in it

If you don't want to boil it, put it in a large bucket of water and let it soak. You'll need to keep it in there for a few days and change out the water. Do this until the water stays clear or is a light tea-color. Some people like the color in the tank, so they will only soak it for a few hours (boil it) to clean it, and then place it in the tank. I soaked mine for a week.
