Does it have a puffy film surrounding it or is it just discolored?

Urm not really, looks like uve grazed ur knee or summit u know, it looses its like top layer.
I think if it was to have a fluffy texture on it then it would be more tomorrow? What if it does..?
cheers

If it looks like this, you're in trouble.

Note the thick opaque mucous layer around the tissue. Thats a self-attacking immune response and the coral will kill itself if you dont frag it. If it just looks retracted and discolored, its probably just stressed and will be OK.

Ah well aint like that yet. Ill keep an eye on it, if it did get to that stage u just simply chizzle the healthy part correct?

Atm looking at it with just blue lights on, the top part which gets the most light are open with like white in the middle and like red dark red areas on the round lumpy bits.

Sounds just irritated, just watch it closely. If you have to frag it, the best way to do it is first to dremmel a groove where you want to chisel and then just take a chisel and hammer to it :/. Not the most fun thing, but if its that or let it die, I know what my choice would be...

True. Looking at it today its starting to loose most of its green body and going red with white areas and edgy.... bad sign?

Maybe :S anyway you can take another pic of the stressed area?

lol oh dear. Yer here u go, for some reason a 2mega pixel cam phone is better then my 5 mega pixel digi cam wtf? lol.

As u can see its all like daggerd edges all over the body and browny.

Just looks like its a bit stressed, not infected. Keep an eye on it, but thats NOT the appearance of an infected and rapidly deteriorating coral. Let it heal itself :)

Ok lets hope for the best, where about is the best placement for it, my LFS said under my lights (4x 54w T5s) i needed to put it high as i can but would it be ok on the sandbed as be safe there?

With 4 full length T5s you should be able to put it anywhere, even the sand bed :)

just wondering why is a response of the coral to kill itself?

Actually, any immune system (including our own) if over-stimulated will begin attacking self. After all, one of the first indicators of cancer is elevated white blood cell counts as our own immune systems start attacking cancer cells even though cancerous cells are in fact our own cells . I could go into the biochemistry of it, but everyone would probably just say, "there goes professor beaker again." :D 8)

Ah cool! Well here is a pic of it on the sand...
