Can any one either recommend a moonlight system?
Obvious what they are but how do they work?

Cheers

Dan

they are useful for seeing fish that dont come out in the day like my BN plec will usually only come out in the night so if it weren't for moonlight i would not see him

a user on ebay called Garlicbred sells them and they are very good, just over a tenner for everything ans its all wet up for you just need to plug it in and stick the leds to the lid of the tank but sticky pads are included

The setup I did was about $66 because I didn't feel like building them at the time. About 6W Bright LED's and provides the perfect amount of light for my 55 gallon. I got 1 of these..

and then 5 lunar links that connects to the main one which powers them all.

These are white because I wanted a more "moon" type look. Blue moonlight doesn't look right to me... They also have what I did in Blue or Red

Mine cost around $10. Built the hood to my 65 with a 2' flouro fixture for the main light, wired in a socket with a seperate circut with a 7 watt blue sign bulb for moonlight.

If I get sick of blue, I can get just about any color bulb & switch it.

okay i just bought moonlights and i got them off ebay. search aquarium moonlight and youll find plenty..i bought the ones in a long piece of wood. not to complain because they are being replaced as soon as the replacement arrives because one of the led is out (came that way) but i think i would have bought the ones in the led tube lookin back because its in a compact fixture that i think would be easier to use and mount imo..they look great and im happy with mine just think i like the compact size enclosed in a tube ones..remember jmo though im sure everyone here probably likes their moonlights..

I made my moonlight with a cold cathode kit from compusa took me about 10 mins to install cost about $20
I've got a picture somewhere if needed.

A word of warning.

Don't use the cold cathode type kits eg from ebay unless you have a cover glass as they are not water proof. I have a juwel system and as this doesn't have a cover glass to separate the light tubes from the condensation water managed to penetrate the cathode tubes causing them to start to short out.

On the face of it I think I'll buy a waterproof LED based system off eBay I saw one where the LED were completely submerged and placed in the wood, a little unnatural granted but effective.

yah like i said i to have the wood one and its fine i just think the one in the tube is more compact and may be easier to mount out of the way. i put little holes in my aquarium hood to match up with the ones where my led bulbs are then just zip tied it to the lid you lift when feeding the fish. i like it.

I use AGA versa top's so the cold cathode kit works perfect.
Plus they tube are encased in plastic anyway.
